This necklace is made from French faux ivory beads. Faux ivory was developed in France in the early 1900s as a deliberate imitation of ivory and was extremely popular during the Art Deco era. It was used in France primarily for making buttons, combs, jewelry and knife handles. Coco Chanel, Jacob Bengel and Auguste Bonaz all designed jewelry in faux ivory.
