A large bronze Baule shield pendant boldly hangs from hand-knotted jade rounds. Baule beads come from the Ivory Coast and were historically used as weights to measure gold. Made using the lost-wax casting method where molten metal is poured into a mould created from wax to cast a desired shape. A repeating feature throughout Baule Beads is the regular parallel grooved markings that run throughout.
This large textured shield is a bold reminder of strength, protection and power.
The necklace is 18 inches long and the pendant is 2.5 inches wide and 3 inches top to bottom.
